Creating Headers with xhtml/css

I hate it so much, I usually end up half-assing it and making it look “decent” but nothing stands out. Well, the header should stand out the most! But I cannot figure out the aspects of a good header.

If I see one, I can tell if it is good or not. But I cannot reproduce it. This is my problem…hoping to fix it by the end of February.

No Motivation Saturdays..

Every week I work hard using the little spare time I have in anticipation for Saturday: the day I spend upwards of eight hours bettering my projects and businesses. Most of the time I feel like I have all the time in the world and get so many things done.

But occasionally, on Saturdays like this the opposite happens. I sit here and realize it is 5:47pm and where has the time gone? I’ve done absolutely nothing to improve my skills or websites. I have no idea why this happens, but I’d hate to feel like this every day.

I need to find that spark I can go to whenever I’m feeling unmotivated to get my stuff done…but doesn’t everyone?

We all know them…

The kids who are seemingly intelligent and do things on the computer. The kids who often recite memes on Facebook. If you’re in High School, you know who I am talking about. I thought I’d give a certain kid, Mike, a chance because he did actually seem smart. But, he came across as an emotionless dick who followed the internet hivemind’s opinion on things, but has some valid points on the topics we discussed.

Then, in one of my classes we were discussing what we wanted our career to be in. Most people gave the bullshit “I want to be married with kids, and be a doctor or a business major.” Yeah yeah whatever. But then Mike goes. This is what he says. I bullshit you not: “I want to own a PC brand.” Okay…that is fine. You can create a company to compete with HP, Dell, and the likes of them. That isn’t the end of it, though! The kids in our class are astounded by this endeavor. One of them says to him “you build computers?” and in his socially awkward, deep voice somehow gets this sentence out: “yeah I have like 5 I built from scratch.”

I inquired about this later on in the day, not wanting to embarrass him in front of the class. I found out he simply ordered parts online and put together a computer. News fucking flash: ordering parts from Newegg and making a Desktop is not “from scratch” as you made it seem nor is it how you start your own PC brand. I laughed in his face, and told him exactly what I said above. I walked away because I knew I didn’t want to associate with someone as ignorant as him.

We all know kids like this, don’t we? No? Oh well.

Let me clear something up

I’ve heard way too many times, online and real life, that black people are African American. You live in Africa and you’re black? African American. You live in Europe and you’re black? African American. You live in Egypt and you’re black? African American.

Sorry, but African american does not mean black. That means you were born in African or are of African descent, and you’re currently a citizen of the United States. African + American = African America. You can be white and be African American. Hint: The majority of South Africa.

Education Systems: We’re being conditioned against learning

It’s called operant conditioning, and we’re all subjected to it. What do you do when your dog does a trick you’re teaching it? You reward it right? And if it pisses on your couch? You punish it right? What you’re doing is shaping the dog’s behavior by controlling the consequences of his behavior. If he is punished, he will stop doing whatever he did that made you punish him.

Homework sucks. People hate it; some would rather have a pinecone shoved up their ass. Then again, there are those people – we all know them – who liked to have pinecones up their pooper. When do you get homework? Right after you learn something. You are being punished for learning and are being trained to hate it. Do you like waking up early? Probably not. When do you usually wake up early? For school. You are associating being tired (which I doubt you like) with going to school. You don’t like being tired and you won’t like school.

It’s really a basic but totally logical concept. But let’s assume this was non-existent, we weren’t being conditioned against learning. What is our true benefit of going to school? Most assignments, most topics, most classes will be useless to you once you graduate in grammar and high school. That would be fine if we actually developed skills we’ll need in the real world during our time in class, but we don’t. The system tries, but fails terribly.

Who has ever been assigned to a group project in school? The goal here is to teach you how to work together and accomplish a common goal. Great concept, right? Well, all I have ever learned from these activities is to never trust anybody to get shit done for or even with you. If you want it done right, you do it yourself. Everybody must have experienced this one way or another.

This week I was assigned a research paper in my US History class. Sweet, basically an easy A with minimal effort. I’d expect a 5-8 page research paper on a topic in History. Nope. This year the teachers decided to work together with the Literature department. We get to write a fiction research paper! We pick a topic from the 1750-1900 time period and add our own character in there. How fucking awesome is this? Not fucking awesome at all, that is the answer. Okay maybe if we got to do this on our own it’d maybe give these lazy and terribly unintelligent students in my class motivation to do something productive, but no. The teachers will be holding our hands and will be making us do it their way to a tee. What the fuck is that? We’re in high school, it is not that hard to write a 5-8 page fictional essay when we are given 2 months to do it. Notecards, outlines, rough draft, and the new “plot and character development plan.” Yeah we cannot even decide on our own method for plot/character development.

The point is, school caters to the underachievers and nobody wins. It’s an honest bullshit system that does not seem to be working one bit. Teach people common sense and how to create new ideas and maybe we’ll see some more success in the world. As of now, we just sitting at a stand still.

About me

Why Lie is a personal blog where honesty is the policy. If feelings get caught there's not much I can do for you. I'll be writing about anything you can imagine, stories from my abnormally exciting life (sarcasm), videos from said exciting life (also sarcasm), politics (boring..yeah I know), current issues in the world, etc. If it effects me, it'll be up here. I don't care if you think it is lame, I don't care if you think my writing talents are a gift from heaven (ok I'm lying, I would care if you told me that). I'm going to write about the things that surround me in real life and online, hoping not to be too boring for my readers. I'll be posting interesting content as well such as webmaster/coding tutorials since that is my past time. Fuck it...you can decide all of this by yourself by simply reading the posts right? Right.
